How much is your Jersey City property tax bill going up in 2026?

Jersey City's total tax rate is rising from about 2.334 to 2.673 per $100 of assessed value — roughly a 14.5% increase — driven by higher municipal, school, and county levies. For the median residential property that's about $1,370 more per year. Type any address above to see the exact estimate for that property, split by taxing authority.

Why did my August tax bill jump so much?

New Jersey bills the first two quarters at the prior year's rate. When new rates are certified mid-year, the entire year's increase is folded into the third and fourth quarter bills — so August and November bills rise far more than 14.5%. That's the catch-up, not an error.

Can I do anything about it?

The tax rate is set by the city, school district, and county — individual owners can't appeal it. What you can check is your assessment: your bill is your assessed value × the rate. If your assessment is out of line with what comparable homes sell for, that's the number worth examining.
